Important Information


In most all cases a Land use Permit (Zoning permit) is required before a Building Permit can be issued.  Please contact the Zoning Office directly at (802) 865-7188 for all information specific to the land use permit.  In support of streamlining the permitting processes, instantaneously when working with the Zoning Office it is recommended that you connect with this office for review on the environmental and structural life safety codes and standards connected and keeping your project on schedule.  

City of Burlington Code of Ordinances Chapter 8 section 8-28(a) Fees: Buildlng construction permit fees are based on the estimated cost of the work at the rate of $8.50 per $1,000.00 with a minimum permit fee of thirty ($30.00) dollars.  

Means of getting your permit applications to the City of Burlington Department of Permitting & Inspections for processing. 
Please be mindful of the fact that the permit is not a permit until it bears a signature and fees are paid.  Without either, work must not begin.

Here you will be able to apply for permits, upload construction documents and pay fees, This service is intended to speed up the permitting process and eliminate unnecessary trips to DPI for paperwork and payments.

Always use the General Email Box address for permit applications due to the fact that the individuals inspectors email addresses and their machines are locked out during their absence.  Customer Service will distribute your application(s) to those professionals of that discipline. 

 

Conditions of all construction permits

All work by the applicant shall comply with the codes and ordinances of the city of Burlington.  The permit authorizes the applicant to proceed with the work described above in accordance with these codes.  Permits shall not be construed as authority to violate, cancel or set aside any of the provisions of the codes adopted in the city or State.  The applicant must contact the department to scheduled inspections and obtain final project approval.
