Mayor Miro Weinberger Announces that City Begins Construction on Waterfront Access North

Burlington, VT – Mayor Miro Weinberger today announced that Burlington began construction on the Waterfront Access North (WAN) project that will enhance nearly six acres surrounding the Moran site.  The early-stage work, including the creation of storm water outfalls, clean-up of environmental contamination, and site-clearing and site-preparation, will ready the City for its major construction push next spring.

“I appreciate the hard work and collaborative efforts of the members of our City team at Public Works, CEDO, Parks and Rec, and BCA” said Mayor Weinberger.  “This initial work marks the start of improvements to the northern waterfront that will ensure expanded public facilities, access, and enjoyment of our remarkable waterfront.”

The City will complete this more than $150,000 of work during the fall when lake levels are low, allowing for more efficient progress.  Over the winter, the balance of the WAN project will be publicly bid and WAN construction will resume in the spring.  The WAN project includes realigning and improving portions of the bike path; developing new sidewalks, plantings, and lighting; constructing a new, world-class skatepark; and making improvements to the end of Lake Street.
