Mayor Miro Weinberger Encourages Community Participation in Railyard Enterprise Project’s Local Concerns Public Meeting
Burlington, VT – Mayor Miro Weinberger today encouraged members of the Burlington community to attend and share their input at the second local concerns public meeting of the Railyard Enterprise Project (REP) to be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 7-9pm in the Main Street Landing Great Room, 60 Lake Street. The meeting goals include informing the public about the REP, receiving community feedback, and answering questions about the scope of the project.
“We encourage Burlingtonians to join us and share their thoughts and ideas at this important meeting and at future public meetings as this conversation continues,” said Weinberger.
This second local concerns public meeting is an important milestone in the implementation of the REP announced by Mayor Weinberger in September 2012 and unanimously endorsed by the City Council in October 2012. The REP is a new waterfront and railyard access project that will link Pine and Battery streets through a new urban street grid, creating a multi-modal network of rail, truck, car, transit, bike, and pedestrian connections to access Burlington’s southern waterfront and railyard.
Next week’s local concerns public meeting will engage the community on the REP and will be managed by a professional design team retained by the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) to develop project alternatives and assess environmental impacts. The Administration anticipates the presentation of final project alternatives this fall.
“I’m pleased to see this important initiative continuing to move forward as we work to create a more economically vibrant and interconnected South End District,” added Weinberger.
The City of Burlington is working with the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) and the CCRPC on this project. For more detailed information about the REP, please visit the CCRPC website.
