Mayor Miro Weinberger Responds to Public Works Director Steve Goodkind’s Retirement Announcement

Burlington, VT – Mayor Miro Weinberger today responded to the retirement announcement of Steve Goodkind, director of the Department of Public Works, in which Goodkind informed Weinberger of his plans to retire at the end of his current appointment on June 30, 2013.  Goodkind, who has served the City of Burlington for 32 years, will serve beyond June 30 if his successor has not yet been appointed and confirmed by that date.

“Steve Goodkind has given more than three decades of service to our City,” said Weinberger.  “In the short time we have worked together, it’s been easy to observe the great passion Steve has for the City of Burlington and the breadth of skills Steve has brought to the job.  While the DPW team is losing a dedicated leader, the City will continue to benefit from the influence Steve has had on its members.  I wish Steve much success and happiness as he pursues other interests during the next phase of his professional life.”

Weinberger and Goodkind met this morning with DPW staff to inform them of the news of Goodkind’s upcoming retirement.  During that meeting, Weinberger shared his commitment to identify and appoint a dynamic individual to lead DPW forward and ensured the DPW staff of a smooth transition thanks to Goodkind’s willingness to serve beyond June 30.
