Mayor Miro Weinberger Statement in Response to Unanimous City Council Vote to Lift 50% Non-Residential Requirement

“Tonight’s action by the City Council is an important step forward for housing affordability and new housing options in Burlington.  By eliminating the ‘50%-50%’ provision, the Council has rescinded what amounted to a prohibition on new housing in the downtown and taken one of the concrete steps toward housing affordability called for in planBTV.  As someone who actively opposed the creation of the ‘50%-50%’ limitation and called for its rescission while running for Mayor, I am very pleased with tonight’s vote.”

Statement relates to City Council Meeting agenda item 3.01, which can be found here (below Local Control Commission agenda).
