North Avenue Unsignalized Crosswalks

 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The North Ave Unsignalized Crosswalks Project includes five new unsignalized crosswalks on North Avenue at Ward Street, Killarney Drive / Village Green Drive, Poirier Place, Gosse Court, and Green Acres Drive / Cayuga Court.   Crosswalk locations are selected based on recommendations by the North Ave Corridor Study.

All crosswalks will include continental pavement markings, Pedestrian Crossing warning signs with diagonal downward arrows, advance Yield to Pedestrians signs and markings, new concrete ramps with truncated domes and tighter corner radii, and new pedestrian-scale lighting. 

STATUS

August 28, 2019 - Crosswalk installation is complete! The City is working with the contractor to button up the site and close out this project.

August 9, 2019 - The light poles are currently in delivery. Due to shipping delays, the poles are now expected to arrive the week of August 19th. The contractor will begin installing the poles, RRFBs and striping immediately upon arrival.

June 2019 - The contractor has completed installation of the sidewalk ramps, curbs, and pole foundations throughout the project. The contractor is awaiting the arrival of some materials needed to complete the project, such as the light poles and the signage. Due to the long lead time, these items are anticipated to arrive in July. At that time, these materials will be installed along with the flashing beacons and the crosswalk striping. There will be minimal construction activity through June and the majority of July.

April 2019 - The contractor has started construction. Surface work is being completed through the end of May. New light poles, RRFBs (flashing beacons), and pavement markings will be installed in July. All crosswalks will be fully operational by August 30th, 2019.

March 2019 - The contractor has been selected for construction. Work is anticipated to begin April 2019.

January 2019 - Contract Plans are completed and the Invitation to Bid is advertised for the 2019 construction season. The Department of Public Works is accepting bids for construction until February 26th at 10:00 a.m. View RFP Here.

April 2018 - Lamoureux & Dickinson continues to progress design plans for the five intersections.  Construction is expected to be completed during the 2019 construction season.

August 2017 - Lamoureux & Dickinson continues to progress design plans for the five intersections.

October 2016 - A Public Meeting is being held on October 13, 2016 at the Wards 2 and 3 NPA meeting.  Conceptual drawings will be presented at the meeting. View updated concept plans here.

August 2016 - Lamoureux & Dickinson updated the conceptual drawings based on the July 27, 2016 public comments.  The revised conceptual drawings are being shared at the Wards 4 and 7 NPA meeting on August 24, 2016.  View updated concept plans here.

July 2016 - A Public Local Concerns Meeting was held on July 27, 2016 at the Wards 4 and 7 NPA meeting.  Conceptual drawings were presented at the meeting.  View concept plans from the meeting here.

March 2016 - Lamoureux & Dickinson was selected to provide engineering design services for this project. Survey has been completed for the project, as well as location of existing utilities and additional documentation of existing conditions. Concept plans are currently under development.
