Downtown Burlington Garages Have Plenty of Parking – and During the Holidays it’s Free!

Burlington, VT – The City of Burlington will be offering an extended free parking promotion during the holiday season at its Lakeview and College Street garages – both within a short walk to all downtown has to offer.

The Region’s Destination for Shopping, Arts, and Food
More than ever, downtown Burlington and the Church Street Marketplace are the region’s premier cultural, dining, and commercial destinations, with great atmospheres, excellent merchants, and low vacancy rates. The recent transformation of St. Paul Street and the ongoing historic upgrade of City Hall Park are the most recent investments in renewed infrastructure, modern stormwater management, and placemaking that make Burlington’s downtown even stronger.

To support this commercial and cultural vitality, Park Burlington (a partnership between the City’s Department of Public Works and the Community and Economic Development Office and the Burlington Business Association) and the Church Street Marketplace are excited to offer even more free parking at downtown garages (details below) during the holidays. This promotion is funded by a contribution from Brookfield Properties, the developer of CityPlace Burlington.

“With Church Street sparkling with seasonal magic and full of local shops, an enormous range of food options, a great exhibit at Burlington City Arts, and lots of convenient, free parking, there are more reasons than ever to visit downtown Burlington,” said Mayor Miro Weinberger. “I hope to see many of you in our downtown this holiday season.”

Free Parking Details:

  • This promotion runs from November 23 to December 27 at the City-owned Lakeview and College Street parking garages. On weekends, parking will be free all day with no validation necessary. During the week, parking will be free for four hours with validation from a downtown retailer or restaurant.
  • Lakeview and College Street garages are connected, providing 1,200 spaces within a short walk to Church Street, St. Paul Street, the waterfront and all of downtown Burlington.
  • The Lakeview Garage is located next to the Hotel Vermont on Cherry St – just off of Battery St.
  • The College Street Garage is just south of Lakeview, has two entrances, one on College Street (just off of Battery St) and one on Battery Street (just north of College St).
  • See ParkBurlington.com for locations, rates, and other parking options throughout Burlington.

“Lakeview and College Street Garages always have availability and are only a 3-5 minute walk from the downtown. The city has added lighting to the exterior walkways,” said Kelly Devine, executive director of the Burlington Business Association.  “One of our goals is to show visitors and locals alike that these garages exist, they have parking and they aren’t that far from the downtown.”

Year-Round Parking Perks:

  • On Sundays, parking is always free at City-owned garages and at on-street meters
  • The rest of the week, all three City-owned garages (the Lakeview, College Street, and Marketplace garages) offer two hours of free parking
  • ParkMobile continues to grow as a convenient way to pay. Sign up today!
  • In the south of the downtown on St. Paul Street, the first floor of the Champlain College building at 194 St. Paul Street features two new City-managed covered parking lots that are accessible from Maple or King.
  • In the north of the downtown, the City also manages the Elmwood lot and offers free daytime parking on weekends and evening parking during the week. This lot is on Elmwood Ave between Grant & Pearl Streets.
