Statement from Mayor Miro Weinberger on Activity at Burlington Bars

Burlington, VT – Four Burlington bars received written warnings from the State for violations of the Governor’s orders this past weekend. Those orders include limiting indoor operations to 50 percent capacity, having all patrons seated, prohibiting seating at the actual bar, properly spacing tables, limiting outdoor operations to a maximum of 150 people, having a designated health officer on site, and complying with other requirements. In response, Mayor Miro Weinberger released the following statement:

“While positive cases of the coronavirus remain low here in Chittenden County, the tremendous spike that is happening nationally shows us how fragile our success is. That’s why it’s particularly concerning that several Burlington bars did not comply with the Governor’s orders this past weekend. Going forward, we will be watching bar activity very closely. Bars need to comply proactively themselves, or we will be forced to take further action. We shut down bars before St. Patrick’s Day, and while I would strongly prefer to avoid having to do that again, we will find a way to do so if bars are not following the public health rules that are in place to stop the spread of the virus and protect the health of everyone in our community.”
