Statement from Mayor Miro Weinberger on Board, Commission, and Committee Meetings

Burlington, VT – On March 26, Mayor Weinberger suspended all non-emergency board, commission, and committee meetings through April 15. Today, following the Governor’s extension of the Stay Home, Stay Safe Order through May 15, the Mayor announced that these meetings will continue to be suspended through that time. The City will continue to support remote/virtual meetings of the City Council and Board of Finance.

If a board or commission chair believes that the board needs to convene in order to act on emergency business, exceptions will be made by the Mayor’s Office on a case-by-case basis.

“As Mayor and as a former Airport Commissioner, I greatly value the role of our volunteer citizen boards and commissions in the policy setting and management of the City,” said Mayor Weinberger. “At this time, City staff and departments are working extremely hard on the public health, relief efforts, and other emergency work related to COVID-19. When the City is in position to both complete this work and properly staff the City’s boards and commissions, those meetings will resume. Our goal is to do that when the Governor’s order is lifted on May 15. In the meantime I have directed our department heads to update their Commissions weekly and seek input from them informally when appropriate.”
