Stanbury Rd Protected Pedestrian Zone

Overview

The Department of Public Works is excited to announce a pedestrian zone pilot project on Stanbury Road aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and addressing traffic calming concerns. A new pedestrian zone has been established by removing parking on the east side of Stanbury Road, where the sidewalk terminates. The zone will be protected with temporary vertical orange delineators, similar to those used on North Ave for bike lanes.

The pedestrian zone will provide a dedicated space for walkers. Additionally, the delineators will visually narrow the road, which is also intended to slow down vehicle traffic, creating a safer environment for all road users. We aim to extend the pilot until November 1, 2024.

This initiative is being undertaken in conjunction with the NNE Sidewalk Scoping work, aligning with our broader efforts to enhance pedestrian infrastructure throughout the area.

Scope

Quick Builds

As a quick build project, the intention of the Protected Pedestrian Zone is to provide space for people to walk safely along Stanbury Rd. Quick Build projects allow the City of Burlington to tackle a wider range of safety concerns, as they are more rapidly installed and less costly than permanent projects.
