Transparency & Data
Transparency is a key component of police legitimacy. Data is a big part of that. The Burlington Police Department strives to share as much about its operations and functions as possible, subject to privacy rights and legal restrictions, because the more our neighbors know about our work, the better we can work together on the shared responsibility of public safety.
There are many ways the BPD facilitates transparency: We...
- have an Annual Report
- publish a daily Police Blotter
- make regular Press Releases
- host an annual Citizen Academy
- have an Open Data Dashboard
- share data with the City Open Data Portal
- publicly report all uses of force
- make monthly Chief's Reports to the Police Commission
- and make a plethora of other public presentations and reports
