Mayor Miro Weinberger Statement in Response to Town Meeting Day Votes

“I appreciate Burlingtonians’ support of ballot questions #2, #3, #4, and #5 – all items that my Administration worked on with the City Council for a year or more and campaigned hard for in recent weeks.  I particularly appreciate the voters' broad confidence in our waterfront investment plan.  Our City team will be engaging in a focused effort in the months and years to come to see that plan effectively implemented.  I also share the concerns about rising property taxes reflected in the vote totals, and pledge to continue our practice of disciplined financial decision-making and advocating for reform to the statewide property tax system.

I welcome the strong support our community demonstrated for ballot questions #6,#7, and #8.  Together, these votes represent an important step forward for common sense public safety reforms in Burlington and Vermont.

I offer congratulations to Kurt Wright and Bianka LeGrand, both of whom I look forward to working with on the City Council.  I also offer sincere appreciation to both Carol Ode and Tom Treat, who ran thoughtful campaigns that contributed in positive ways to the conversation in the New North End.”
